Affirmations Do they work

Posted in Uncategorized on November 20th, 2009 by Willy – Be the first to comment

First of all what is an affirmation. It is statement that you written down that you repeat or read daily. Do they work. In my life I always prepare the ground with them. I try to make them fit on a 3 by 5 index card.

Here are some rules that I have for making them.

1. Avoid negatives. Dont say No don’t, wont. Instead keep it positive.

2. Keep it present tense. Saying I am becoming smarter is better than I will.

3. Read them 3 times  a day or more. Many times my affirmations is the 1 st step I take on a life change. I prepare the ground. I might read them when I shave, cook, ride the bus

4. Make sure there is emotion involved. Add emotion and it will make the affirmation more powerful.

5. I focus on mine on a weekly basis. I focus very hard on try to make the affirmation the center of a change and then I rotate a new one in.

6. Focus on how your life will change if the affirmation comes true.

Thomas Edison On Opportunity

Here is the quote
“Opportunity is missed by most people because
it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. ”
~ Thomas Edison

My take on it
I have many friends who talk about changing the life or habits. But they are looking for a secret or easy way to do it. That is 1 reason that there are so many diet book released yearly and when a new one come out we all swarm to it for it will show us the easy way.
Its the same way with self help. People will buy the newest thing as long as it promises to make life changes easy. Unfortunately life changes are simple not easy.
The hard work comes in changing our inter self talk or working on our habits when we fear the outcome.
The hard work come when you slip off the success path and have to pick your self up and start from where you slipped. Its really not fair off life to ask you to  commit to a change and then force you to recommit daily. But if you do the hard work you will enjoy a reward few people do.

About Habits

What is a habit. A habit is an action you take with out think about. We hope every one we work has the habit of bathing daily or you dread working with that person. A habit was something we devolped to handle routine or repetitive actions. We do them with out thinking about them. This can be good or bad. An example of a habit I had that was a poor one was I would pop a can of soda and drink it with out any forethought. Why was this bad I was drinking a 12 pack of daily. My weight was out of control and I was on the verge of type 2 diabetics

So how is a habit formed. Some we are trained to do. You ever visit a mother with 2 or 3 old child. In some cases the child still does not under stand why they have to wear pants. So Moms and Dads help form some of your basic habits. Other habits you pick up from TV and Magazines. Some are reinforced through peer pressure. Some like driving and our work habits we are trained by a stranger or our educational system.

A habit allow us to focus on more important stuff while we get the routines stuff done and this why they are so tough to break. Its not like we are not doing anything we are. We may be eating the wrong foods or not keeping care of our selves, but we are taking an action.

What makes many habits tougher to break is that they bring us pleasure. Also the more frequent the action is makes it even tougher. Add the fact that in many cases we view change as painful and you are facing double trouble. The action we want to change is pleasurable the change is painful and we say the heck with it and do not change our habits.

So what we learned about habits is that they are subconscious that allow our brain to worry about more important thing and that we either pick them or our trained into them. We also learned the more frequent the action and the amount of pleasure we receive from them the tougher they are to change.
